Pantami Rejects APC Consensus for Gombe Governorship

Professor Isa Pantami, the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, has publicly rejected the consensus arrangement proposed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Gombe State governorship election. In a statement issued on Sunday by Suleiman Moham on behalf of the Pantamiyya Movement, Pantami criticized the arrangement for its lack of inclusivity and legal compliance.

He argued that the process failed to meet legal requirements, stating that no valid consensus could be reached without the involvement and consent of all aspirants, who must obtain complete nomination forms. Pantami urged party members to remain calm and abide by the law, despite the perceived disregard for due process.

He referenced the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, particularly Section 84(2), which outlines the necessary methods for nominating candidates within political parties. Pantami also highlighted that any aspirant who refuses to step down must revert to direct primaries, emphasizing the right of every registered party member to vote directly for their preferred aspirant.
