Tinubu Wins APC Primaries with Over 10 Million Votes

In the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries held across Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged victorious, garnering over 10 million votes, significantly surpassing his closest rival, Stanlei Osifo, who received 1,271 votes. The primaries, conducted through a direct voting system, were overseen by Anyim Pius Anyim, the chairman of the APC presidential electoral committee.

This election model is groundbreaking as it marks the first time a major political party in Nigeria has adopted direct primaries for presidential nominations. The results showed a stark contrast to the previous general elections, where Tinubu had 8,794,726 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) received 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) obtained 6,101,533 votes.

Despite Osifo's participation, analysts noted he posed no significant threat to Tinubu. The primaries are seen as a crucial step for the APC as it prepares for the 2027 presidential race.
