APC Explains Opposition Leaders' Anger Over Electoral Act

Felix Morka, a representative of the All Progressives Congress (APC), articulated the reasons behind the anger of opposition leaders regarding the recent amendments to the Electoral Act. In an interview, Morka stated that the amendments frustrate the opposition's plans, particularly concerning the real-time transmission of election results, which they argue is crucial for the legitimacy of the electoral process.

He specifically mentioned that prominent opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Buba Galadima, are aware that internet connectivity is inconsistent across Nigeria, which could invalidate election results if real-time transmission is not feasible. Morka's comments followed the signing of the Electoral Act amendment bill into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday.

Meanwhile, leaders from the African Democratic Congress and the New Nigeria Peoples Party criticized the new law, claiming it has an anti-democratic tilt that favors the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
