APC Explains Opposition Anger Over 2026 Electoral Act

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has articulated the reasons behind the dissatisfaction of opposition leaders regarding the 2026 amended Electoral Act. In an interview, a spokesperson named Morka stated that the opposition's anger is rooted in the amendment's removal of provisions for real-time transmission of election results.

This change is perceived as a strategy to undermine the opposition's plans for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Morka emphasized that the opposition leaders are aware of the inconsistencies in internet connectivity across various regions in Nigeria, which could hinder the feasibility of real-time result transmission.

He mentioned that prominent opposition figures, including Galadima and Obi, recognize that not all polling units in Nigeria have reliable internet access. The amended Electoral Act was signed into law on Thursday, and opposition leaders have condemned it as biased against them and favoring the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
