Presidency Defends Electoral Act Against Opposition Claims

In a formal response to criticisms from opposition parties, the presidency, through spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to stop their frequent lamentations and unwarranted outrage regarding the Electoral Act. Onanuga clarified that the 2026 Electoral Act does not prohibit real-time transmission of election results, as alleged by the opposition.

He emphasized that the Act allows for the use of Form EC8A in cases of network failure. The presidency accused the opposition of making reckless and spurious allegations against President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Onanuga stated that the opposition should focus on introspection and fixing their internal issues rather than blaming the government for their organizational failures. He also highlighted that the National Assembly has been responsive to public concerns regarding the electoral process, countering claims that they ignore the wishes of Nigerians.
