APC Gains Majority in Adamawa Assembly After PDP Defections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a majority in the Adamawa State Assembly after the defection of six lawmakers from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), including Deputy Speaker Muham Buba Jidjiwa. The resignations were formally acknowledged during a plenary session, marking a significant shakeup in the assembly.

The lawmakers who exited the PDP include Kefa Kalvin, Bulu Geoffrei, Leko Koma, Haruna Jilantikiri, Kefa Emmanuel, and Jingi Belel. This development raises questions about possible changes in the assembly's leadership structure, although no specific reasons for the defections were publicly disclosed.

Speaker Bathiya Weslei has called for political stakeholders in local government areas to align politically with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to secure what he described as a "dividend of democracy."
