APC Gains Control of Yobe Assembly After PDP Defection

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken full control of the Yobe State House of Assembly after Sadiq Attajiri, the minority leader and a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), defected to APC. Attajiri, who represented the Bade Central Constituency, was elected on the PDP platform during the 2023 general elections.

His defection was confirmed in a statement released on the verified Facebook page of former Senate President Ahmad Lawan. Attajiri visited Abuja and described his move as a reflection of progress under the leadership of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and President Bola Tinubu.

The defection adds significant value to the APC, which now controls 24 seats in the assembly, leaving it without any opposition members. Attajiri's decision followed consultations with political associates in his constituency and was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Yau Dachia and former Speaker Adamu Dogo.

Although Attajiri did not comment at press time, Nasiru Maimanja confirmed the development, indicating that Attajiri would formally announce his defection soon.
