APC Suspends Abia Congresses Amid Otti Defection Speculation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of local government ward congresses scheduled for Abia State, as speculation intensifies regarding Governor Alex Otti's possible defection from the Labour Party. A letter dated February 18, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was jointly signed by APC National Chairman Nentaw Goshw and National Secretary Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.

The letter cited ongoing consultations and the need to conclude certain administrative processes as reasons for the suspension. It assured INEC that the party would communicate any revised timelines in compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.

Although the APC is not directly linked to the political realignment, sources within the party suggest that the suspension is part of a strategic consultation to accommodate new entrants and recalibrate the party's structure ahead of future elections. Neither the APC leadership nor Governor Otti has officially confirmed any discussions regarding a defection.
