APC Suspends Member for Insulting Rep in Cross River

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Mr. Ekanim Philip Johnson from the party for allegedly insulting Rt.

Hon. Bassey Akiba, the representative for the Odukpani/Calabar Municipal Federal Constituency.

The decision was made during a combined meeting of the Akamkpa Ward APC leadership on January 27, 2026, and the notice of suspension was signed by Mr. Victor Emmanuel Robert and Mr.

Ayi Etim Effiong, the chairman and secretary of the Akamkpa Ward, respectively. The suspension is effective immediately and follows Johnson's repeated uncontrolled public outbursts that were deemed embarrassing and detrimental to the party's reputation.

The notice emphasized the importance of free speech within legal boundaries but stated that Johnson's actions had brought the party into disrepute. Additionally, the notice directed the Water Board to cease any engagement with Johnson in party matters, aligning with the party's disciplinary guidelines as outlined in Article 21 of its constitution.
