Cross River Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Over Assault Claims

The Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended Dickson Agbor, the representative for Obubra State Constituency, indefinitely due to allegations of domestic assault. This decision was made during a plenary session on Thursday, where a motion was moved by Davi Etta and seconded by Franci Bassey.

The assembly condemned Agbor's alleged violent conduct, describing it as unbecoming of a lawmaker and contrary to the ethical standards expected of its members. The assembly aims to preserve its integrity and ensure that members conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values entrusted to them by the people.

Following the resolution, Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms in compliance with the directive. Speaker Elvert Ayambem emphasized the assembly's commitment to upholding discipline and integrity within the legislature, stating that misconduct that could bring disrepute to the institution will not be tolerated.

The assembly has approved the formation of a constitutional ad hoc committee to investigate the matter and report its findings for further legislative action.
