APC Gains Control of Zamfara Assembly with 12 Defections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken control of the Zamfara State Assembly following a significant political shift where Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki announced the defection of 12 lawmakers from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) during a plenary session held in Gusau on Monday. This decision was made in light of recent developments involving Governor Dauda Lawal's own defection from the PDP to the APC.

The formal reception of the defecting lawmakers by the APC is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24. Among the defectors are Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu Gummi II, major leader Bello Mazawaj from Tsafe East constituency, and Chief Whip Rilwanu Nagambo from Anka constituency.

Moriki stated that the decision to defect was aimed at aligning with the governor to promote the development of the state and to encourage smooth collaboration between the state and federal government, resulting in the APC gaining full control of the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
