APC's Dayo Faduyile Wins Ondo South Senatorial By-Election

Professor Dayo Faduyile of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in the Ondo South Senatorial by-election held on Saturday, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing the results on Sunday. Faduyile received a total of 68,474 votes, the highest among the candidates.

Adeolu Akinwunmi of the People's Movement (APM) came in second with 1,411 votes, followed by Adesanya Olaoluwa of the Action People's Party (APP) with 213 votes, and Clement Funso Nejo of the Boot Party (BP) with 70 votes. The total number of votes cast during the election was 70,770, with 602 ballots declared invalid.

Mr. Mutiu Agbok, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State, described the election as an important preparatory exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections and noted that the commission would review challenges encountered to strengthen future electoral operations.

The Ondo South Senatorial seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria's permanent representative to the United Nations.
