APM Calls for Investigation into NSCDC Custody Deaths

The APM has demanded an urgent and transparent investigation into the deaths of 37 Nigerians in the custody of the NSCDC in Minna, Niger State. This call was made by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mr Abubakar Yusuf, in Abuja.

The fatalities occurred after 66 individuals were detained for alleged illegal mining activities, with authorities attributing the deaths to a suspected disease outbreak. Reports indicated that the detainees were held for over two days in overcrowded and harsh conditions.

The situation led to protests in Minna, where security agencies were accused of using ammunition and tear gas against demonstrators. The APM condemned the use of force and expressed concern over the inhumane conditions that led to the deaths, stating that the explanation provided by authorities was insufficient.

The party called for accountability for those responsible and sympathized with the victims' families, urging calm as the investigation proceeds.
