Appeal Court Upholds Conviction of Ex-Army General Umar Moham

The Appeal Court in Nigeria has affirmed the conviction of Major General Umar Moham, a former senior officer in the Nigerian Army, for misappropriating over ₦4 billion belonging to the military. The court upheld the earlier decision of a special court martial that found Moham guilty of stealing and mismanaging military funds.

The three-member panel, comprising Justices Abba Moham, Okon Abang, and Eberechi Nyesom Wike, rejected Moham's appeal, which claimed that the military tribunal lacked jurisdiction and that the evidence against him was weak. The court ruled that the tribunal acted within the law and that credible evidence supported its verdict.

Moham was sentenced to imprisonment and ordered to refund $2,099,700 and ₦1.65 billion as part of the penalties for his offenses. Additionally, a separate ruling by Justice Dehind Dipeolu of the Federal High Court ordered the final forfeiture of shares worth ₦5 billion linked to Moham, reinforcing the legal troubles he faces beyond his criminal conviction.
