Appeal Court Delays Judgment on PDP Convention Dispute

The Appeal Court in Abuja has reserved judgment on nine appeals filed by a rival faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) challenging a Federal High Court decision that halted the party's national convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The appeals were marked CA/ABJ/CV/1613/2025.

The PDP's national chairman, Tanimu Turaki, alongside three other members of the party's executive committee, was involved in the proceedings. The appeals were prompted by Justice James Omotosho's ruling on October 31, 2025, which stated that the PDP could not hold its convention until it complied with statutory requirements outlined in the party's constitution and the Electoral Act.

The court found that the PDP had failed to issue a mandatory 21-day notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), jeopardizing the convention plans. The ruling also emphasized that INEC must ensure compliance with electoral laws during party conventions.

The case has drawn significant attention due to its implications for the PDP's internal governance and electoral processes.
