Appeal Court Invalidates PDP's Ibadan Convention Outcome

The Appeal Court dismissed an appeal by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) against a judgment delivered on October 31, 2025, by Justice Jame Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The court's unanimous decision restrains the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcomes of the PDP's national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15-16, 2025.

The ruling resolved four issues against the PDP, significantly impacting the political landscape for its members. Notably, Dauda Lawal has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further depleting the PDP's ranks.

Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State have expressed their intent to uphold the judgment while navigating their political aspirations. Makinde, who is serving his second term, indicated a desire to contest future elections under the PDP platform, despite the current challenges facing the party.
