Peter Obi Requests Academic Records from UNN Amid Lawsuit

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to release his academic records. This request follows a legal action initiated by Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi, who filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja on September 9, 2026.

Arabambi's suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2144/2026, seeks an order compelling UNN and its Vice-Chancellor to provide certified copies of Obi’s academic credentials, including his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy awarded in 1984. Arabambi had previously requested these records under the Freedom of Information Act on July 16, 2026, but claimed UNN failed to respond adequately.

He sent a reminder on August 31, 2026. Arabambi is also pursuing separate suits against the West African Examinations Council and the National Youth Service Corps for access to records related to Obi’s certificates.

His legal actions aim to clarify the authenticity of Obi's educational credentials submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 presidential election.
