Legal Suits Filed Over Peter Obi's Credentials for 2027

Three suits have been filed in Abuja against WAEC, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to compel them to release records linked to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections. The suits were initiated by Abayomi Arabambi, a chieftain of the NDC, through his legal team led by Anderson Asemota.

Arabambi previously requested information from each institution regarding certificates he believed were issued to Obi but received unsatisfactory responses. WAEC declined his request on August 11, citing the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, while UNN and NYSC did not respond.

The suit against WAEC, filed on September 1, seeks a certified true copy of WAEC Certificate No. SC042560.

The suit against UNN, filed on September 9, seeks various academic records related to Certificate No. D000198.

The third suit against NYSC, also filed on September 1, seeks records tied to NYSC Certificate No. 203495. Arabambi is not questioning the authenticity of Obi's certificates but seeks transparency regarding the institutions' records.
