Obi Demands Release of Academic Records from UNN

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, publicly requested the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to release all documents related to his academic records during an interview on 90 Minutes Africa. This call came in response to claims by Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, regarding presidential candidates having files with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Obi stated he was unaware of any FBI file and had no dealings with the agency. He emphasized the importance of transparency for public office seekers and requested that institutions where he attended executive programs also release his records.

The issue of Obi’s credentials gained attention after Abayomi Arabambi filed a lawsuit against UNN for allegedly refusing to provide details of Obi's academic record, specifically a certified true copy of his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy certificate issued in 1984. The suit, filed on September 9 at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeks to compel UNN to respond to Arabambi's request under the Freedom of Information Act.
