Arapaja's Loyalists Divided Over APC Defection Plans

Taofeek Arapaja, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP, is reportedly planning to defect to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections. This development has caused a division among his loyalists, with some distancing themselves from the move.

The split arises amid speculation that Arapaja has concluded arrangements for his return to the APC, having allegedly held a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who reportedly assured him of political accommodation and benefits. However, multiple loyalists have expressed that Arapaja's decision to defect was made without consulting the grassroots political structure, which has historically supported him.

They cite unpleasant experiences from previous defections as a reason for their reluctance. Despite the internal conflict, a group of Arapaja's loyalists publicly reaffirmed their loyalty to him, insisting he remains their undisputed political leader.
