APC Suffers Defections as Lawmakers Join PRP, ADC

On Wednesday, two lawmakers from the House of Representatives formally announced their defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People's Redemption Party (PRP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This development underscores the intensifying political realignments in Nigeria as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

Rabilu Bala, representing the Jama'ita Gadau Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, was one of the defectors. During a session in the House, Speaker Tajudeen Abba read Bala's letter, which attributed his decision to persistent internal disagreements within the APC.

Bala expressed the need to pursue a political platform that he believes would better serve the interests of his constituents. This defection follows extensive consultations with political stakeholders and reflects growing concerns about developments within the APC at both state and national levels.
