Tinubu Calls Plateau Elders to Address Ongoing Violence

President Bola Tinubu convened a meeting with Plateau State elders, political leaders, traditional rulers, and religious figures at the State House in Abuja to address the persistent violence in the region, which has lasted nearly three decades. This initiative follows a recent attack on Angwan Rukuba that resulted in at least 11 deaths.

The President's message emphasized the urgency of breaking the cycle of violence that has plagued Plateau State since the 1994 Jos riots. The meeting included prominent figures such as former military governors and the current governor, Caleb Mutfwang.

Tinubu announced a federal commitment of N2 billion to support victims of the recent attacks, signaling an immediate humanitarian response. The violence has led to significant loss of life and displacement, with recent incidents involving gunmen attacking mourners and communities.

Despite previous commissions of inquiry and recommendations for reform, the implementation of solutions has been rare, necessitating this new approach to restore peace in Plateau State.
