Tinubu Calls for Peace Amid Plateau State Violence
• This Day • Politics
President Bola Tinubu visited Plateau State to address the persistent violence that has plagued the region for over three decades. Speaking at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, he highlighted the heavy toll of conflict on the people, referencing the latest attack in Angwan Rukuba that resulted in significant casualties. Tinubu's remarks underscored the historical context of violence in Plateau, beginning in 1990, with notable incidents such as the 2001 crisis and the 2018 Barkin Ladi massacre. He called for unity among political leaders and traditional rulers to break the cycle of violence and poverty. Governor Caleb Mutfwang echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the challenges faced but expressing hope for rebuilding trust and stability. In response to the escalating violence, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu announced the deployment of 850 additional troops to reinforce security efforts in the region.
