Aregbesola Warns APC Against Reliance on Governors for Tinubu's 2027 Victory

Rauf Aregbesola, a former Osun State Governor and Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against assuming that governors can guarantee Bola Tinubu's victory in the 2027 presidential election. Aregbesola emphasized that electoral victory is determined by voters, not just the number of sitting governors in a party.

He highlighted recent defections from the APC to other parties, including key governors like those from Kano, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Enugu, Bayelsa, Taraba, and Plateau states. Aregbesola also pointed out that controlling state governments does not always translate to winning votes in elections, citing the APC's struggles in the South-East despite dominance in the South-West.

The former governor urged electoral authorities to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in 2027. Additionally, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba criticized Bola Tinubu's leadership style, accusing the APC of operating like a cartel and undermining democracy.

Nasir El-Rufai also warned against practices that erode public trust in government during a conference in Abuja.
