Arewa Forum Rejects New Vehicle Tax Claims, Supports Reforms

The Arewa Socio-Economic Forum (ASEF) issued a statement on Tuesday, signed by its national president, Dr. Aminu Kuta, to debunk a viral claim regarding the introduction of a new vehicle tax by the federal government.

ASEF conducted an investigation and found no evidence of such a policy from the Nigeria Revenue Service or the Federal Ministry of Finance. The forum urged vehicle owners to disregard misleading messages that could create confusion.

Dr. Kuta emphasized the need for the public to verify information through official government channels to avoid unnecessary panic.

Additionally, the forum commended the fiscal reforms initiated by Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance, and Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, which aim to improve revenue distribution and transparency. ASEF highlighted the positive outcomes of recent reforms, particularly in increasing Value Added Tax (VAT) allocations to support poorer states, and called for continued public cooperation and engagement to strengthen trust in government institutions.
