Arewa Forum Denies New Vehicle Tax Claims in Nigeria

The Arewa Socio-Economic Forum issued a statement on Tuesday, clarifying that there is no new vehicle tax in Nigeria and warning citizens to ignore misleading viral messages circulating online. The statement, signed by the forum's national president, Aminu Kuta, described the claims as false and capable of creating unnecessary panic.

The forum conducted an independent review and engaged relevant stakeholders to address the issue. Kuta urged Nigerians to be cautious of unverifiable messages and noted the increasing exploitation by fake websites.

The forum also called for citizens to remain vigilant as the federal government continues to implement fiscal reforms aimed at improving revenue generation. Kuta highlighted that these reforms have already yielded results, particularly in increasing value-added tax allocations to states.

The forum commended the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, for a fiscally driven approach and praised Zacch Adedeji, chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, for strengthening tax administration and improving public communication.
