Tinubu, EFCC lauded for N1.23trn recovery efforts
The Arewa Think Tank, led by convener Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for their achievements in combating corruption. Over the past 34 months, the EFCC recovered approximately N1.233 trillion and secured 10,872 convictions in corruption and financial crime cases.
Yakubu noted that this progress indicates the effectiveness of Tinubu's administration in its anti-corruption efforts, despite facing resistance from corrupt elements. He urged both Tinubu and EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede to maintain their commitment to eradicating corruption in Nigeria.
The commendation followed a stewardship report presented by Olukoyede, detailing the commission's activities from October 2023 to July 2026. The report indicated that the EFCC's recoveries included N288.1 billion in federal and state tax revenue and N257.2 billion for federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Additionally, the commission recorded 234 cases involving unlicensed bureaux de change, resulting in 73 convictions.
