Leonardo Balerdi, a 27-year-old central defender, has suffered a calf injury that will prevent him from participating in the upcoming World Cup. The Argentina Football Federation announced this on social media, expressing their wishes for a speedy recovery for Balerdi.

The injury, described as a muscle issue in his right leg, was confirmed on Saturday. Balerdi had hoped to play in his first World Cup and had recently shared a photo of himself training with the squad in Kansa City on social media.

Argentina is scheduled to face Honduras in a warm-up match late Saturday in College Station, Texas, before kicking off the tournament on June 17 against Algeria.
