Nigerian Army Urges Eket Youths to Enlist for Service

Brig Gen Mose Ikobah, head of a team from the Nigerian Army, raised concerns about the low enrolment of youths from Eket, Akwa Ibom, into military service during a visit to the local government chairman, Mr. Tommei Akaninyen, on Tuesday.

Ikobah described the situation as worrisome, noting that the Nigerian Army is falling behind in recruitment compared to other communities. He emphasized the importance of encouraging Eket youths to enlist, highlighting that the army offers not just a means to serve in conflicts but also a unique career path.

In the past year, the Nigerian Army aimed to recruit 400 personnel from Akwa Ibom but only managed to find two from Eket. Akaninyen urged eligible youths to take advantage of the ongoing recruitment, commending the army's efforts and pledging full support for the initiative.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Pastor Umo Eno for the opportunity and assured that the number of applicants from Eket would significantly increase this time.
