Nigerian Army Foils Ambush, Kills Four Gunmen in Cross River

On March 12, 2026, troops from the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, under the command of Major Assist Director Yemi Sokoya, successfully foiled an ambush in the Odonget Community of Obubra Local Government Area, Cross River State. The operation was initiated following credible intelligence regarding rising tensions linked to community disputes.

Troops were deployed to conduct patrols and maintain law and order. During their efforts, soldiers encountered an ambush by unidentified gunmen, leading to a fierce exchange of fire.

Reinforcements from the 245 Battalion were deployed with armored tactical support vehicles, enabling the troops to repel the ambush and neutralize four armed attackers, while several others escaped. One soldier sustained injuries and was evacuated for medical treatment.

In the aftermath, troops commenced search operations to track down suspects and a curfew was imposed to prevent further security breaches. Brig Gen Patrick Alimikhena commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism.
