Nigerian Army Graduates 2,989 Recruits at Amasiri Depot

On November 25, 2025, the Nigerian Army celebrated the graduation of 2,989 pioneer recruits from the newly established Amasiri Depot located in Edda, Afikpo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. The event was presided over by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.

Gen. Waidi Shaibu, who described the occasion as a landmark event in the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Army.

This depot is part of a strategic initiative to expand the military's manpower, with a target of recruiting 14,000 soldiers as part of a broader plan approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bolster the army's response to emerging security threats. Lt.

Gen. Shaibu commended the instructors for successfully transforming civilians into combat-ready soldiers and urged the graduates to maintain professionalism and loyalty.

He also appealed to community leaders in the Southeast to encourage youth enlistment in the military, noting that the region's recruitment quota remains underutilized despite the establishment of the training institute. Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru hailed the graduation as a historic achievement for both the state and the nation.
