Nigerian Army Enhances NCO Leadership Capacity

The Nigerian Army is taking steps to strengthen its Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) leadership capacity, as announced in a statement by Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director Army Public Relations. A strategic research paper was presented to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, by Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, the Commandant of the National Defence College, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

This study outlines policy recommendations aimed at enhancing leadership, professionalism, and institutional resilience within the NCO corps. Lieutenant General Shaibu described the research as a timely contribution to the Army's transformation, emphasizing the critical role of effective NCO leadership in building a disciplined and adaptable force to tackle Nigeria's security challenges.

He stated that the recommendations would be reviewed for potential integration into leadership development programs. The research, produced by participants of National Defence College Course 34, identifies gaps in NCO leadership development and suggests reforms in training, mentorship, and welfare to prepare future military leaders.
