Nigerian Army Defeats ISWAP Attack in Borno State

On May 9, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force North East, under the command of Lt. Col.

Sani Uba, successfully repelled a night attack by ISWAP terrorists in Borno State. The attack occurred around midnight, targeting the 120 Task Force Battalion in Gonori.

The troops detected the advancing insurgents early and engaged them immediately, executing a coordinated defense that overwhelmed the attackers. A statement issued on Sunday confirmed that no part of the camp was breached and no equipment was lost.

The operation involved a synchronized air and land assault, with Nigerian Army aviation providing support to ground troops. Following the encounter, troops conducted a sweep of the area, discovering heavy casualties among the attackers and recovering numerous weapons, including general-purpose machine guns, PKT machine guns, and AK-47 rifles.
