Troops Defeat ISWAP Attack in Yobe, Kill 50 Terrorists

On May 8, 2026, troops from the Nigerian Army successfully repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the 27 Brigade headquarters located in Buni Gari, Yobe State. The assault, which occurred in the early hours, resulted in the deaths of two soldiers.

According to a statement from the Joint Task Force North East, led by Lt. Col.

Sani Uba, the terrorists launched a coordinated attack targeting the brigade headquarters and nearby checkpoints. Despite being outnumbered, the troops employed effective defensive tactics, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers, with at least 50 terrorists neutralized.

The military recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including eight AK-47 rifles, two general-purpose machine guns, and several rocket-propelled grenade tubes. The operation also involved air support, which facilitated precise strikes against fleeing insurgents.

The military confirmed that no part of the camp was breached during the attack, and the area remained secure throughout the engagement.
