Nigerian Army Warns Troops on Social Media Misuse

The Nigerian Army, under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen.

Waidi Shu'aibu, has issued a warning to its troops regarding the misuse of social media. This warning was delivered during the closing ceremony of the first Regiment Sergeant Major (RSM) convention held at the headquarters of the 1 Division in Kaduna.

The convention aimed to enhance discipline, mentorship, and ethical standards among soldiers, particularly focusing on younger personnel. Lt.

Gen. Shu'aibu highlighted the importance of social media as a strategic communication tool but cautioned that its misuse could compromise operational security and discipline.

He specifically urged RSMs to mentor younger soldiers, particularly those from Generation Z, about the dangers associated with irresponsible social media use. The Chief of Army Staff directed RSMs to conduct regular digital awareness briefings within their units and to lead by example both online and offline.
