Arokodare Comments on Super Eagles Striker Selection Ahead of Qualifiers

Arokodare, currently playing for Ajax on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, addressed the competition for a starting position in the Super Eagles as they prepare for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Madagascar. He stated that the decision on who starts belongs to coach Eric Chelle, particularly following Victor Osimhen's withdrawal due to injury.

Osimhen, a Galatasaray player and Nigeria's leading active scorer, was ruled out of the September qualifiers after sustaining an injury in a club match. Chelle has called up Taiwo Awoniyi from Coventry City as a replacement, alongside Akor Adams and newcomer George Ilenikhena.

The match will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with a subsequent match against Guinea-Bissau on September 29. Arokodare, who has 10 caps and started only one match for Nigeria, acknowledged his recent recovery from a fever, stating he is not yet at full strength.
