Wike Critiques Kingibe's Movement Restriction Statement

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), responded to Ireti Kingibe's statement about restricting movement in Abuja ahead of the area council elections. Wike stated that as a senator, Kingibe should be able to read and understand that a curfew cannot be imposed without the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

This reaction came after Kingibe announced restrictions on human and vehicular movement across the FCT from 8 PM on Friday to 6 PM on Saturday, citing security concerns. Wike, in a special broadcast on Thursday, declared Friday a work-free day in the nation’s capital to prepare for the council polls.

He acknowledged the importance of maintaining law and order but criticized Kingibe's approach as an overreach. Wike's comments were made during an interaction with journalists on Saturday while monitoring the FCT area council elections.
