APC Gains Three Senators, Nears Two-Thirds Majority

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has gained three more senators from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), raising its Senate membership to 84. This development is significant as it brings APC closer to achieving a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly, which is crucial for pushing constitutional amendments without needing opposition support.

The current Senate has 106 serving members, with APC now holding a substantial advantage over the PDP, which has dwindled to 14 senators. The defectors include Aminu Iya Abba from Adamawa Central, Ikra Aliyu Bilbi from Zamfara Central, and Ipalibo Banigo from Rivers West.

This shift underscores the ongoing crisis within the PDP and enhances APC's legislative power, enabling it to drive critical bills, including constitutional reforms. The APC's dominance in the House of Representatives has also increased, with 231 out of 360 seats, further solidifying its control over federal legislation.
