Police Officer Arrested for Suspect's Extrajudicial Killing

ASP Nuhu Usman of the Delta State Police Command was arrested after the killing of 28-year-old suspect Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State. The incident occurred on April 26, 2026, when police operatives received credible intelligence about Ogidi attempting to deliver a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.

During the operation, Usman allegedly discharged his firearm, violating Force Order 237, which led to Ogidi's death. The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, condemned the extrajudicial killing and ordered Usman's immediate arrest and transfer to the state headquarters in Asaba for disciplinary action.

Usman will face a disciplinary committee and potential prosecution. The police command reiterated its commitment to professionalism and respect for human rights, extending condolences to Ogidi's family and assuring the public that necessary steps would be taken to ensure justice.
