IGP Orders Dismissal of Officers Over Civilian Shooting

On April 26, 2026, a civilian named Mene Ogidi was fatally shot in Effurun, Delta State, leading to disciplinary action by the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu. Disu announced the dismissal of Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman and others involved in the incident, describing their actions as criminal and a clear violation of police rules.

The IGP confirmed that the incident was an extrajudicial killing, which betrayed the oath of the officers involved. He ordered the transfer of the officers connected to the incident from the Delta State Command to Abuja to ensure a swift and impartial disciplinary process.

The Force Disciplinary Committee will review the case involving both senior and junior personnel. Disu emphasized that there is no justification for the unlawful killing of a citizen and reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and abuse of power within the Nigeria Police Force.

He extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged citizens, particularly in Delta State, to remain calm.
