The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria announced that certain aspects of military cooperation with the United States are confidential. During a press briefing in Abuja, Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Micheal Onoja, indicated that U.S. support, which includes intelligence sharing and operational training, is intended to enhance the capabilities of the Nigerian Armed Forces in addressing emerging threats. He acknowledged that while the impact of this support may not be immediate, it is expected to yield tangible outcomes over time. The cooperation is particularly crucial as Nigeria approaches the Easter celebrations, a period often associated with increased security risks. Brigadier General Yusuf Alli clarified that the military does not recruit or de-radicalize terrorists, denying rumors related to Boko Haram and ISWAP. The U.S. troops are expected to arrive in Nigeria on February 15, 2025, to support military operations.
