ASUP Gives FG 21 Days To Meet Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has given the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to meet its demands. ASUP President Shammah Kpanja stated during a briefing in Abuja that the union's demands include the immediate release of a circular from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission for the payment of Peculiar Academic Allowance to polytechnic lecturers.

Kpanja highlighted that a 10% salary review arrears covering 12 months have been budgeted for but not yet released. The union also criticized the continued outsourcing of the polytechnic accreditation process to the National Board for Technical Education.

Kpanja expressed disappointment that many state governments have not implemented the new national minimum wage for polytechnic staff and called for the approval of a dual mandate structure to end discrimination against HND holders.
