ASUP Issues 21-Day Ultimatum To FG, Threatens Nationwide Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, threatening a nationwide strike. During an emergency meeting in Abuja, ASUP President Comrade Shammah Kpanja accused the government of insincerity and deliberate neglect of promises made to the union.

Kpanja highlighted the outsourcing of accreditation by the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) to a contracted firm with questionable educational background, compromising the integrity of the system. The union also raised concerns about the non-payment of Peculiar Academic Allowance and arrears from a 2010 agreement, as well as the failure to implement a dual mandate structure for Higher National Diploma (HND) holders.

Kpanja warned that the government's indifference to these issues could lead to a breakdown of the system.
