ASUU and FG Reach New Agreements on Salaries and University Autonomy

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government (FG) have reached new agreements to address long-standing issues, with a focus on resolving salary and university autonomy disputes. The agreements include a 40% salary increase, improved pension benefits, and enhanced research funding.

The deal also emphasizes greater university autonomy and academic freedom. The new agreements will be effective from January 1, 2026, and will undergo a review every three years.

ASUU has received support from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in advocating for government commitments. Former President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led the FG in negotiations with ASUU.
