ASUU Urges Ondo State to Implement 2025 Agreement

The Akure zonal chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called on the Ondo State Government to implement the 2025 agreement signed with the Federal Government. This agreement, which was fully recognized by the state government, includes financial provisions aimed at improving the welfare of academic staff and enhancing the quality of higher education.

ASUU's Akure zonal coordinator, Adeola Egbedokun, criticized the state government for its alleged inaction, which he claims has led to the accumulation of arrears for lecturers. The agreement, signed on December 23, 2025, is a comprehensive pact that includes provisions for mainstreaming lecturers' salaries and consolidating academic research.

Egbedokun noted that despite the state being a major oil producer and a beneficiary of derivation funds, it has failed to implement the agreement's provisions. In response, Ondo State's Commissioner for Education, Prof.

Igbekel Ajibefun, stated that the state government has already begun taking action to implement the agreement.
