ASUU Warns of New Strike Over Unpaid Salaries in Ondo

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has issued a warning that the payment of outstanding salaries will not avert a new strike unless the Ondo State Government implements the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement. ASUU Chairman Dr.

Boluwaji Oshodi stated that the union has completed internal procedures for a fresh strike, pending approval from its national leadership. AAUA lecturers have been on an indefinite strike since July 10 due to unpaid salaries for May, June, and July.

Although Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa reportedly released funds to address salary arrears, Oshodi emphasized that the union requires actual payment alerts to suspend the strike. Furthermore, ASUU is preparing for another industrial action concerning the non-implementation of the 2025 agreement, which has already been enacted in federal universities and other state institutions, leaving Ondo lecturers feeling disadvantaged.

The planned strike could extend to all three state-owned universities in Ondo: AAUA, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), and the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED).
