ASUU Strike Resolved: Universities to Remain Open

The Federal Government of Nigeria declared the end of the ASUU strike, ensuring that universities and polytechnics will remain open for the academic session. This announcement was made during an event by Dr.

Maruf Tunji Alausa, who emphasized the resolution of long-standing disputes with ASUU. A significant agreement was signed on January 14, which includes a 40% salary increase for academic staff and improvements in pension commitments and university funding.

ASUU President Prof. Chris Piwuna had previously issued a four-day ultimatum regarding the government's response to what he termed "fake news." The agreement also involves non-academic staff unions, with a new agreement expected to be signed within the week.

The government reassured parents and students that there will be no further strikes, with the next renegotiation scheduled for 2025. The resolution aims to address issues that have persisted for over 20 years, with the government expressing confidence in maintaining stability in tertiary institutions.
