Shaibu Urges Youth Discipline at Sam Okwaraji Championship

During a media conference in Abuja to unveil the inaugural First Bank Sam Okwaraji U-16 Secondary School Football Championship, Philip Shaibu, the Director General of the National Institute for Sports, called on Nigerian youth to adopt discipline as a means to positively impact national development. The event was attended by key stakeholders in the sports sector, including Bukola Olopade from the National Sports Commission and representatives from the Nigeria Football Federation.

Shaibu highlighted the legacy of the late Samuel Okwaraji, a former Super Eagles midfielder, as a role model for young Nigerians. He stressed the need for collective responsibility among citizens to contribute to national progress rather than blaming political leaders.

Shaibu also addressed the challenges faced by former athletes due to inadequate planning and proposed the development of a new curriculum to equip athletes with relevant knowledge for life after sports. He commended the championship initiative as a solid foundation for nurturing young talent and preserving Okwaraji's legacy.
