First Bank Launches Sam Okwaraji U-16 Championship in Abuja

The First Bank Sam Okwaraji U-16 Championship was officially unveiled in Abuja by Hon. Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

The championship aims to discover talent for Nigeria's U-17 World Cup team and is endorsed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF). The inaugural edition will take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The event is organized by the Samuel Okwaraji Foundation to promote patriotism and educate youth through football. Samuel Okwaraji, who was born on May 19, 1964, tragically passed away on August 12, 1989, during a World Cup qualifying match against Angola.

The championship seeks to immortalize his legacy and inspire unity and sacrifice among young Nigerians. Sen.

Osita Izunaso emphasized the importance of strict compliance and fair officiating, while Rt. Hon.

Philip Shaibu highlighted the event's role in celebrating legends and inspiring future generations. Olusegun Alebiosu from First Bank noted the bank's commitment to youth empowerment and sports development.
