Shettima Advocates for National Peace Covenant in Jos

On Saturday, during the 80th birthday celebration of former Plateau State Governor Senator Jonah David Jang in Jos, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima called for a renewed national covenant on peace. He emphasized that peace is a shared responsibility among the government, community leaders, and citizens, stating, “A people at peace is the highest achievement of any government.” Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's goodwill to Jang and reaffirmed the administration's commitment to a secure Nigeria that fosters economic opportunities.

He urged Nigerians to reject ethnic profiling, religious hatred, misinformation, and retaliatory violence, asserting that sustainable development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear and distrust. Shettima described Plateau State as “Nigeria in miniature,” reflecting the nation’s diversity and struggles.

He condemned the association of individual criminal acts with entire communities, stating that crime has no tribe and that collective blame only deepens divisions.
